Railway station Caesar Ceramics USA, Tiles, slabs and technical solutions

The restructuring of the Elmas railway stations in Sardinia, the subject of important work steered by architect Marco Tradori and by engineer Paolo Fadda, has been selected as the winner in the “Institutional” category of the “La Ceramica e il Progetto 2019” contest organised by Confindustria Ceramica and Cersaie.

The fruit of a concept that adapts existing structures to new design needs, the work involved integrating the pre-existing building with new spaces dedicated to catering and commercial activity, encouraging social aggregation in a heavily-trafficked urban area that was nevertheless lacking in services. This architectonic development was carried out according to modern and functional criteria, without overlooking the environmental impact, also from an artistic standpoint.

In this regard, the versatility typical of Caesar ceramics proved essential as, with its wide range of products, the company knew exactly how to offer the right solution, combining outstanding beauty, naturalness and functionality.

The external façade of the station has been completed with 30x120 cm porcelain tiles from the More series. The alternating of three different natural tones – Nylus, Iridium, Lux - makes for a “pixel effect” that recalls that of the area’s typical sedimentary rock, deriving from loam and sediment in the nearby Santa Gilla basin and solidified with the passing of geological eras.

The same influence and series is also harnessed for the flooring of the station that, dressed in the colours of Nylus, in its 30x60 cm size, ensures a very appealing overall result that is both coherent and natural.
